Black Box Website

Project Purpose

The purpose of this project is to create a web site for a school TV program entitled "Live! at Black Box Studio". This is a weekly show that interviews local bands. The main challenge in this site was to make it easy to use. I needed to create a site that could be updated easily by someone with no technical knowledge of websites. It also had to be structured to allow for media to be easily embedded and downloaded.

Pertinance to My Independent Study

Although this project was not programming intensive, I did have to work with a fair bit of code to complete it. The site is built off a php CMS (Content Management System) which I had to modify in places to optimize it for this site. Programming methods used included varibles, switch statements, if/then statements, while and for loops, and arrays.

To-Do List

  • Test across different browsers to ensure compatability
  • Look into an error message which always comes up the first time the site is loaded after changing the CSS of the site via the admin pannel. It appears to have no effect on the rest of the site
  • Finish setting up RSS feed, and work out the kinks in embedding video and audio.

Progress

November 3rd

As this project required far less programming than the Breadboard website, I have finished it in around a week. This project was built off a CMS called "CMS made Simple" which I chose for its ease of use both for the developer and end user. As of today, the site is completely programmed, and online with its own domain name. Many staff members have set up their own e-mails using that domain name.
